Herman VFC’s Incorporation
On August 20, 1949, the Herman Volunteer Fire Company and Relief Association was officially incorporated as a Corporation of the First Class. Certified by Butler County Prothonotary Ray C. Miller, the decree and application were formally recorded in the Register and Recorder’s Office for Butler County, Pennsylvania, establishing the department’s official legal foundation.
The First Call
While the exact details of the company’s earliest days were lost when a flood destroyed several historical documents, memory of the very first official fire call endures. Preserving Heritage and Community Support
The department’s first engine was a 1937 Chevy built by Seagrave, acquired second-hand from the Leechburg Volunteer Fire Department. Today, Herman VFC still proudly owns this classic vehicle as a symbol of its history, heritage, and ongoing commitment.
It stands as a tangible reminder of where the department started, how far it has come, and the unwavering community support that makes its mission possible.From setting concrete forms and wheeling cement to erecting scaffolding, hanging bar joists, and prepping walls for paint, their hands-on involvement resulted in a beautiful, highly functional facility built to serve the community for decades.
